And the company has stayed true to this principle set up by its founder Fritz Hiltl since its inception. Since 1955 Hiltl have manufactured nothing but trousers – but getting better and more innovative all the time and with a passion for craftsmanship – ensuring that every shopper purchasing a "Hiltl" gets a pair of trousers like tailormade.
Boasting a perfect fit and perfect finish.
To Hiltl the quality of trousers is not only defined by their finish but by the choice of fabrics. Hiltl only uses face fabrics manufactured by the world's leading weaving mills, predominantly from Germany and Italy, and handles them with particular care. The exquisite fabrics are stored in sleeves to keep them beautiful for a long time.
After fabrics are delivered test swatches of each batch of cotton fabrics are washed and their shrinkage identified. For cutting only batches with the same shrinkage factors are used for the markers. This procedure safeguards the fit so typical for Hiltl even for washed fabrics.
The special quality of Hiltl trousers becomes particularly evident in the waistband. For instance, Hiltl's special waist catch. Or the especially soft and supple waistband finish (with Faldine). This is the traditional finish used by bespoke tailors that Hiltl continues to apply. A tape especially made for Hiltl keeps the waistband from turning over; and all of this is stabilised by 10 fastening bar tacks.
When supplied in rugged materials, "Hiltls" are fitted with a comfort waistband. Applying an innovative process the waistband is shrink finished thereby achieving a stretch of up to 5 %.
With Hiltl each button is something special. The exclusive finish includes genuine horn buttons. And each "Hiltl" has its Hiltl-specific button.
It is attached to the face fabric by a special machine with a long yarn stem. Button shanking with yarn of the same colour is performed by a machine specifically designed for this purpose. These buttons on stems do not come loose and prevent the fabric from being displaced when they are closed.
Hiltl trousers come with features otherwise only found with tailor's trousers: they come with eye buttonholes with cross bar tacks rather than plain button holes. These "eyelets" are produced by a custom-built buttonhole machine. The cross bar tack requires an additional process step but the extra effort pays off. Because in the end every button sits precisely where it should be – fixed and firmly in place.
What has become rare with other pants is a standard for Hiltl trousers: metal zippers. These are custom-made for Hiltl featuring particularly fine teeth. This ensures that zippers also work smoothly after dry cleaning.
Furthermore, zippers are nickel free and comply with eco standard 100 – like all fabrics and findings used by Hiltl.
Perfection in detail. Hiltl provides both front and hip pockets with a decorative bar tack that looks very attractive but is also sophisticated in production.
These half moon bar tacks reinforce pocket mouths and are synonymous with high-quality finish. And these trousers are also a feast for the eyes from inside. The same loving attention to detail governs here. Style assured both outside and in- typical of Hiltl.
The innovative pocket feature for Hiltl 5-pocket pants. In the right hip pocket an additional, invisible zip-closed pocket protects your valuables against loss.
No expenses are spared for Hiltl trousers, neither for materials nor for quality. Which is why "Hiltls" also stay in shape where other pants easily bag: around the knee.
And this is because the trouser topside lining is extra long
and particularly refined. It consists of 100 % viscose and is far longer than usual at 75 cm. This means it stands
proud of the knee even in bigger sizes and guarantees
dimensional stability as well as the highest wear
properties.
Crotch and side seams are closely overlocked. This requires increased sewing technology efforts but projects a flatter seam look and prevents seam turn-ups from showing through during ironing. This is key especially for very finefeed fabrics.
Genuine "Hiltls" are high-precision masterpieces. This is
evidenced best by the trouser shoe guard that protects the hem of each pair of wool trousers and was custom-made
for Hiltl. It is particularly hard wearing, spliced at the
bottom edge and protrudes beyond the fabric by precisely
2 millimetres.
This is how the shoe guard absorbs everything that might damage the trousers making sure that good trousers keep their good looks for a long time.
